The Legal Process

Under Namibian law, parents must apply to the Ministry of Basic Education, Arts and Culture for formal exemption to educate their children at home.

Gather Your Documents

You will need a comprehensive educational plan outlining your chosen curriculum (e.g., CambriLearn, CAPS), a daily timetable, and the parent/tutor's qualifications or motivation for homeschooling.

Submit to the Regional Office

Compile the official application form along with your supporting documents and submit them to the Director of Education in your specific region (e.g., Khomas Region, Erongo Region).

Make sure to get a stamped receipt acknowledging your submission.

Maintain a Portfolio

While awaiting formal approval, and continuously thereafter, you must keep an updated portfolio of the child's work, assessments, and progress reports. Ministry inspectors may request to review this.
